If you apply to the department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) you may be able to get a grant from the government to pay for part of your rent.

In addition to helping you pay the rent, you can also use HUD to help you get a house. TANF

WIC

If you are a single mom, you should look into the WIC program which is for women and children that allows for some rent payments as well as some financial assistance. This is for women with infants or children who are younger than school age.

FHA Loans

If you are first time home buyer, look into getting an FHA loan. In many cases, you can buy a home with little or no money down by applying for an FHA loan. An FHA loan, like any government grant, will take a bit more time than a conventional loan, but will end up saving you money in fees.

It is in the best interest of the government to assist you in getting grants for homes. However, the process to get any grant from the government is lengthy. In order to be able to get a government grant for anything, you have to have plenty of patience. Set up a folder for any grants and keep copies of all of your paperwork.
